Two Tanzania Experts Field Visit of Malaria Surveillance System in Shandong Province in China

To promote the China-Tanzania collaboration on malaria control, with the inviting from NIPD, two experts from Ifakara Health Institute, Tanzania, Dr. Salim Abdulla (Director) and Dr. Chait Prosper (entomologist) were invited for field visit to Shandong Province accompanied with Dr. Xiaoning (Deputy Director, NIPD) Tanzania from 18-20 , June 2014.

Dr. LiuXin( Director, Shandong Institute of Parasitic Disease Prevention and Control) introduced the progress and achievements of parasitic disease prevention and control in Shandong province , the other experts including the entomologists as well as  immunologists from Shandong Institute of Parasitic Disease Prevention and Control also introduced the main progress of diagnosis and vaccine for parasitic disease. Two experts were invited to visit the laboratory and mosquito-feeding chamber in Shandong Institute of Parasitic Disease Prevention and Control. Further, Tanzania experts took field visit of Heze CDC and Mudan CDC and communicated with local experts about the malaria surveillance network construction as well as the management of epidemic information.

Two experts were deeply impressed about the malaria elimination surveillance system and information management during the process of malaria elimination as well as the achievements of lymphatic filariasis elimination and successful experience for kala-azar control in China.

Dr. Salim Abdulla believed that global health support project will provide a good opportunity to learn and use the Chinese experience for promoting health cooperation, which will not only improve the international influence of China, but also promote the malaria eliminating in Africa as well as other neglected tropical diseases in Tanzania, who hoped China-Tanzania malaria cooperation project started as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Dr. Salim Abdulla emphasized that Shandong medical team has worked for many years in Tanzania accumulated a lot of experiences worth learning. He look forward to Shandong public health experts will come Tanzania and work together with the local health staffs, which should help improve the prevention and control of malaria in Tanzania and benefit of the African peoples health, promote the global malaria elimination in the future.
