The seminar of China-Tanzania demonstration project on malaria prevention and control was held in Shanghai

   From January 21 to 23, 2019, the seminar of China-Tanzania demonstration project on malaria prevention and control was held in Shanghai. Dr. Tigest Mengestu, representative of the World Health Organization in Tanzania、Dr. Ally Mohamed, director of the Tanzania National Malaria Control Agency、Yang Wei-Zhong, vice President of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association、Wu Wen-Da, deputy director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in China、Wei Xiao-Yu, project manager、Chinese center for disease control and prevention, Ifakara Health Institute, Tanzania, Swiss TPH, Tropical and Public Health Institute, Harvard University, Tsinghua University, the provincial center for disease control and prevention and parasitic disease prevention and control institutions, Gilin Pharma and Sinosoft, and so on, more than 30 delegates attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Director Zhou Xiao-Nong, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

  In order to facilitate the successful implementation of the demonstration project, the Chinese technical support group, including the Global Health Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, the China CDC, and the Provincial Center for Disease Control, etc., was established under the joint witness of WHO officials. Yang Wei-zhong, vice President of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, served as the leader of the technical support group. The technical support team consists of 13 domestic experts.
In order to explore appropriate public health assistance mechanisms, combined with demonstration projects, and by consensus, according to the principles of voluntariness, equality and mutual benefit, the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, signed a cooperation agreement respectively with the Institute of Parasitic Diseases of Shandong Province, Yunnan Institute of Parasitic Diseases and Henan Center for Disease Control and Prevention.


  Wu Wen-Da, deputy director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in China, elaborated on the roadmap of the China-Tanzania demonstration project on malaria prevention and control supported by the gates foundation.

  Experts from China CDC and Hainan, Henan and Yunnan respectively introduced China-Africa public health cooperation and Chinas anti-malarial experience. And experts from Sinosoft   introduced successful cases of applying information technology to eliminate malaria.
