The China-Tanzania Demonstration Project On Malaria Prevention and Control Coordination and Management Committee Meeting was Held in Beijing

  On the morning of January 26, 2019, the China-Tanzania demonstration project on malaria prevention and control coordination and management committee meeting was held in Beijing. Yan Jun, Director of department of Parasitic Diseases and Endemic Disease Prevention and Control of the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control of National Health Committee, Gu Zhiqiang, deputy director of the Africa Division of the Department of International Cooperation of National Health Committee, Dr. Tigest Mengestu, representative of the World Health Organization in Tanzania,Dr. Ally Mohamed, Director of the National Malaria Control Agency (NMCP),Wu Wen-Da, deputy director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in China,Wei Xiao-Yu, project manager, Ifakara Health Institute(IHI), Tanzania, the National Health Commission Project Fund Supervision Center,Chinese center for disease control and prevention, Harvard University, Fosun pharma, nearly 30 representatives attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by the director Dong Xiao-Ping, the Global Health Center of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention(NIPD).
 
  Yan Jun, Director of department of Parasitic Diseases and Endemic Disease Prevention and Control of the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control of National Health Committee pointed out that the pilot project provided us with good experience. She believed that Chinas anti-malaria experience can be adapted to Tanzanias local conditions and wished the demonstration project a success. Gu Zhi-Qiang, deputy director of the Africa Division of the Department of International Cooperation of National Health Committee, pointed out that China would gradually participate in malaria prevention and control work in Tanzania and other African countries, based on its experience in controlling malaria and combining with Chinas current situation.
 
  Xiao Ning, deputy director of the NIPD, introduced the progress of the China-Tanzania demonstration project on malaria prevention and control. Dr. Salim Abdulla of Ifakara Health Institute of Tanzania presented the trends in the burden of malaria in Tanzania and the main interventions since the implementation of the National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP), and briefly introduced the road map for the China-Tanzania demonstration project on malaria prevention and control. Dr. Ritha J.A. Njau, representative of the World Health Organization in Tanzania, introduced the external evaluation plan of the demonstration project from three aspects: the reasons for the external evaluation, the form of the evaluation and the expected results. Dr. Ally Mohamed, director of the National Malaria Control Programme, introduced the background, main responsibilities, key issues of the project and how the Chinese government is expected to participate.
Wu Wen-Da, deputy director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in China, introduced the malaria prevention and control strategy plan of the foundation.   

  The participants in the meeting had an in-depth and detailed discussion on the proposal to add two points to the demonstration project, the external evaluation plan of the project and the working mechanism of the CMC.

Zhou Xiao-Nong, Director of the NIPD, summed up the achievements of the CMC meeting and expressed gratitude to the National Health Commission, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization and other relevant agencies for their support and efforts, and looked forward to the demonstration project to achieve fruitful results under the guidance of the CMC and the efforts of all parties.
