Expert Consultation to Accelerate Control of Foodborne Trematode Infections, Taeniasis and Cysticercosis
During 17th-19th May 2017, the Expert Consultation to Accelerate Control of Foodborne Trematode Infections, Taeniasis and Cysticercosis was held in Seoul, South Korea, convened by WHO Western Pacific Regional Office. Participating experts came from WHO, FAO and endemic countries including China, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand.
This meeting reviewed the current epidemiology and burden of foodborne trematode infections, taeniasis and cysticercosis in WHO WPR, recommended control strategy and research agenda, and identified opportunities for integrating with other disease control and surveillance activities.
Mr. Men-Bao Qian, Deputy chief, Department of Soil-borne and Food-borne Parasitic Diseases , National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, China CDC presented two reports, namely “updates on country burden of foodborne trematode infections, taeniasis and cysticercosis in China” and “surveillance and response on foodborne and zoonotic parasitic diseases in China”.
