THE SYMPOSIUM ON THE RESEARCH AND EXCHANGE OF PARASITOLOGY IN THE YANGTZE RIVER DELTA HELD BY SHANGHAI PARASITOLOGY COMMITTEE

On March 25, 2017, the Symposium on the Research and Exchange of Parasitology in the Yangtze River Delta was held by Shanghai Parasitology Committee in Hangzhou. More than 30 experts attended the symposium from Jiangsu Province , Zhejiang Province and Shanghai City.

        Dr. Cao Jianping, Chairman of Shanghai Parasitology Committee, addressed the meeting. Lu Shaohong, Director of Zhejiang Provincial Preventive Medicine Association of Medical Parasitology Specialized Committee, introduced the Society of Zhejiang Province for Parasitology.

        On the symposium, Dr. Cao Jianping gave the lecture themed as “prevalence, challenges and prospects of major parasitic diseases and neglected tropical diseases in China”. Dr. Tang Linhua from National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Huang Jianrong from the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical College, Zhejiang University, China, Dr. Wen Liyong, Director of Zhejiang Academy of Medical Sciences, Dr. Cao Jun, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Dr. Wang Yong from Nanjing Medical University, and Dr.Sun Jun from Tongji University, gave the lectures themed respectively : “Study on the efficacy of artemisinin combined antimalarial drugs and the strategies for containment of artemisinin resistance”, “Parasitic diseases with liver damage”, “Ivermectin and its application in the parasitic disease treatment”, “Control and research of imported malaria in China”, “Effect and mechanism of praziquantel on schistosomiasis fibrosis”, and “Biological significance and pathogenicity of the formation of schistosoma hemozoin” as well.

        Experts from the three areas launched a heated discussion on the exchanges and cooperation, personnel training, discipline construction and academic issues of parasitology , filled with academic atmosphere. In order to improve the whole academy standard of parasitological research and communication in the three areas, and establish further cooperation mechanism, the symposium also signed the alliance framework of parasitology for the Yangtze River Delta region, and established long-term exchanges and cooperation platform.
