First Imported Case of Africa Trypanosomiasis in China
Since the first imported case of Africa trypanosomiasis in China was found in September, 2014, under the leadership of the National Health and Family Planning Commission and National institute of parasitic diseases control and prevention (NIPD), China CDC, actively participated in the review, case detection, treatment guidelines and expand investigation work.
In September 11th, NIPD received the case report, then immediately report to the National Health and Family Planning Commission. Telephone consultation were carried out among WHO, NIPD, China CDC, Jiangsu Provincial Peoples Hospital, and Jiangsu Provincial Institute of parasitic diseases, and then coordinated the WHO support therapeutic drug eflornithine. In September 19th, Zhou Xiaonong, the director of NIPD, and several experts from NIPD went to Nanjing, Jiangsu province to carry out the case review, testing and treatment guidance. Through joint efforts from the disease control experts from country, province and city, after the treatment, the patient symptoms and clinical index gradually returned to normal range.
